Diploma in Unani Medicine: Year 2 (Clinical Practice)
Course Overview
During the clinical year, students will have the invaluable opportunity to work with actual clients and develop the necessary skills to deliver effective care. Each case will be thoroughly discussed with students and the class, focusing on the importance of attentiveness and active listening during client interactions.
Students will be responsible for managing cases from inception to completion, including:
- Reading the pulse
- Iris diagnosis
- Prescribing appropriate herbal treatments
Moreover, students will receive hands-on training in the preparation of Unani formulations, an essential aspect of providing holistic care.
Important Note: All classes will be conducted in-person, emphasising the significance of hands-on experiential learning.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this year, students will learn how to:
- Receive and take client case notes
- Make and dispense medicines correctly
- Maintain a successful client practice
Students are required to spend a minimum of 200 hours in clinical observation and practice. Timesheets and reflective logbooks must be filled in and handed in at the end of each year, fully signed by both the student and supervisor.
Professional Development
The module is taught through in-class discussions and through the use of reflective logbooks during clinical practice. Learning objectives and outcomes adhere to National Occupational Standards.
Students are expected to engage in consistent study at home by:
- Revising material covered in class
- In-depth reading of Unani materials and suggested textbooks
There will be a combination of directed and self-directed study to enhance learning.
